Stilton is known by many around the world. It is a fine British cheese that is, until this day, the only British cheese to have a Certification Trade Mark and an EU Protected Name. Stilton can only be produced in three counties in the UK: Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, and Leicestershire. Thankfully this cheese can be found in many delicatessens and grocers around the world so that one does not need to travel to the ends of the earth to procure this beautiful cheese.
Stilton is aged in a cylindrical shape and is allowed to form its own crust. Stilton is most famous for the blue veins that run from the center of the cheese outwards. As it is a part of the blue cheese family, Stilton is a semi-soft cheese that is both crumbly and creamy. It has an extremely strong flavor and has the reputation of taking one’s breath away at first bite.
This beautiful cheese works excellently as part of a cheese board, but has traditionally been enjoyed at the end of a meal with a glass of port of sherry.
