Born out of an illustrious collaboration between the Rupert and Rothschild families, this wine promises a drinking experience marked by quality, elegance, and character.
The Legacy of Rupert & Rothschild Vignerons
Founded in 1997, Rupert & Rothschild Vignerons stands as a testament to the union between two world-renowned families—the Ruperts from South Africa and the Rothschilds from France. Nestled in the Franschhoek Valley, this estate is celebrated for its Bordeaux-style blends that exude finesse, balance, and the soulful expression of South Africa’s Cape.
The Merlot-Cabernet Blend
The Rupert & Rothschild Vignerons Merlot-Cabernet, often acclaimed as the “Classique,” is a masterful blend predominantly composed of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, adorned by Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. With an alcohol content of 13.5%, this wine flourishes through maturation in French oak barrels for 16 months, instilling a delicate spice and structural complexity.
Terroir and Viticulture
Originating from the Coastal Region’s sub-region of Franschhoek, with select grapes from Stellenbosch, the Merlot-Cabernet benefits from an idyllic Mediterranean climate. The dry summers and cool ocean breezes of these regions, coupled with well-drained, decomposed granite and sandstone soils, impart the wine’s distinctive minerality and structure.

Food Pairing and Serving Suggestions
A versatile companion to dining experiences, the Merlot-Cabernet pairs exquisitely with red meats like lamb and beef, and complements charcuterie plates with parma ham. Its vibrant profile also pairs well with mature cheeses and salads adorned with earthy vegetables.
For an optimal tasting experience, decant young vintages to soften the tannins and serve between 16–18°C (60–64°F).
