Geografico Chianti Classico: A Tuscan Masterpiece
Nestled in the rolling hills of Tuscany, Geografico Chianti Classico embodies the tradition, terroir, and excellence that this prestigious Italian region is famous for. Produced by Agricoltori del Chianti Geografico, a cooperative founded in 1961 by 17 inspired winemakers, this wine represents a successful collaboration that has elevated Chianti wines’ quality and reputation.
Historical Heritage
The Geografico brand, over the years, has grown to encompass more than 200 member growers and over 571 hectares of vineyards, with 250 hectares dedicated to Chianti Classico DOCG production. Managed today by Lucas Romeo and Marco Toti with the support of expert oenologists, Geografico continues its legacy of premium winemaking traditions with modern finesse.
Unique Terroir
Situated in the Chianti Classico zone, the vineyards enjoy the ideal conditions of limestone-rich galestro and clayey marl soils at altitudes between 280–600 meters. These diverse soils, combined with the region’s climate with its diurnal temperature swings, are perfect for producing Sangiovese wines with freshness and aromatic complexity. The veneration for traditional Tuscan agriculture is visible in the vineyards interspersed with olive groves and fig trees, promoting biodiversity.
Advanced Winemaking Techniques
At Geografico, tradition meets innovation. The winery still favors concrete tanks for fermentation, offering thermal stability essential for quality winemaking, while maintaining the essence of the vineyard. The wines undergo a meticulous barrel aging process, allowing the subtleties of oak to enhance but not dominate the Sangiovese character.
Chief winemaker Alessandro, recognized as WineMag Italy’s “Winemaker of the Year” in 2022, combines deep local expertise with global insights, building on two decades of crafting fine wines in Tuscany and abroad.
The Quintessential Chianti Classico
Appearance:
Ruby red with youthful vibrancy, typical of Sangiovese.
Aroma & Palate:
On the nose, you’ll experience an intricate bouquet of violets, ripe cherries, and delicate woody notes from the barrel aging. The palate is full-bodied, structured with noble tannins, and closes with a dry finish complemented by almond and raspberry aftertaste. The wine’s acidity and tannins strike a perfect balance, making it exceptionally food-friendly.
Pairings:
Indulge in this wine alongside classic Tuscan dishes like beef steak, crostini with pâté, pasta with rich ragù, or aged Pecorino cheese. Serve it at a temperature of 16-18°C to fully appreciate its aromatic expressions.
