Immerse yourself in the rich tapestry of Spanish viticulture with Bodegas Frontonio Botijo Rojo Garnacha. Crafted from age-old Garnacha vines in the heartland of Aragón, this wine is a testament to both tradition and innovation, offering a sip that captivates the senses while telling a story of its storied terroir.

Discover the Elegance of Botijo Rojo Garnacha

Bodegas Frontonio Botijo Rojo Garnacha is more than just a wine; it’s an expression of Spain’s diverse and historic terroir. Located in Valdejalón, a lesser-known region in Aragón, Bodegas Frontonio has made it its mission to revive the prestige of its ancient vineyards. The winery, founded by Fernando Mora, MW (Master of Wine) and Mario López, sits in a restored 200-year-old house complete with a three-story underground cave ideal for gravity-fed grape processing and aging.

A Celebration of Garnacha

This vivid red wine is produced solely from Garnacha grapes sourced from old vineyards. With vine ages reaching over 50 years, each grape is a concentrated capsule of regional character. The climate in Valdejalón is Mediterranean-continental with hot summers, cold winters, and minimal rainfall, combined with the “Cierzo” wind to reduce disease pressure and concentrate flavors. These conditions, along with the limestone-rich clay and slate soils, impart a distinct mineral note and structure to the wine.

Artisan Winemaking

Bodegas Frontonio’s dedication to minimal intervention is evident in their organic farming practices, spontaneous fermentations, and parcel-by-parcel vinification. Their use of concrete vats for malolactic fermentation allows the fruit’s pure expression while preserving structural integrity. This approach brings a refined balance of fruit intensity, acidity, and minerality.

Tasting Profile

Upon pouring, Botijo Rojo Garnacha reveals a deep ruby hue. The nose is alive with wild strawberries, cherries, and raspberries, elegantly interwoven with floral violets and herbal notes like oregano. The palate follows with vibrant freshness, fine tannins offering a gentle grip, and a dry finish. Subtle hints of smoke, pepper, and vanilla enhance complexity without overshadowing the primary fruit flavors.

Food Pairings and Versatility

The wine’s balanced acidity and moderate tannin make it a perfect match for rich stews, tomato-based pasta dishes, or grilled poultry. Its youthful energy also invites you to enjoy it slightly chilled during warmer seasons.

Critical Acclaim

Consistently receiving scores between 90–92 points from notable critics such as Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate and Guía Peñín, Botijo Rojo Garnacha stands proudly among the exemplary expressions of Spanish Garnacha.
