CHEESE & CHEERS: WHERE WINE, CHEESE, AND FRIENDSHIP MEET

At Terry’s, wine and cheese aren’t just food pairings — they’re conversation starters, ice-breakers, and sometimes the spark for new friendships. That’s the spirit behind our newest event series, Cheese & Cheers — a monthly gathering where we bring together curious drinkers, adventurous eaters, and anyone who believes life’s too short to drink bad wine.

The Idea: More Than Just Pairings

Cheese & Cheers was born out of a simple thought: enjoying wine and cheese should feel fun, approachable, and a little indulgent — never intimidating. Manila already has its fair share of tasting events, but too often they’re either too stiff or too salesy. We wanted something warmer, livelier, and more social. Think less classroom lecture, more Friday night with foodie friends who happen to know their Roquefort from their Brie.

Each event is designed around a curated set of pairings — five unique cheeses with five carefully chosen wines. The goal isn’t to memorize rules, but to explore. Sometimes the match feels natural, sometimes it’s surprising, but it always makes for conversation.

Event One: A Sweet Start in Salcedo

Our first Cheese & Cheers on July 25 at Terry’s Salcedo branch set the tone. The room filled quickly with social drinkers — not sommeliers or “wine snobs” — just people eager to try something new.

Here’s what we poured and why it worked:

White Stilton with Mango & Ginger + Edouard Delaunay Chardonnay Bourgogne
Fruity, playful Stilton met a bright, structured Chardonnay — a reminder that white wine doesn’t always mean “lightweight.”

Wensleydale with Cranberries + Bestheim Gewurztraminer
A crowd favorite. The sweetness of cranberries danced perfectly with the aromatic, lychee notes of Gewurztraminer.

Brezain + Les Jamelles Pinot Noir
Brezain, a smoked cow’s milk cheese from France, found its match in the gentle red fruit of Pinot Noir. Smoky + silky = unexpected harmony.

Gouda Millenium Extra Vieux + Chateau Mezain Rouge
At 18 months, this Gouda packs a salty, nutty punch that begged for a bold red. Chateau Mezain Rouge brought balance with rustic tannins.

Roquefort Crouzat + Rolly Gassmann Riesling Reserve Millesime
The showstopper. Roquefort’s blue intensity needed something bold yet refreshing — and the deliciously off-dry Riesling from Rolly Gassmann delivered. Its gentle sweetness softened the sharp edges of the cheese, while its high acidity cut through the richness. Proof that opposites really do attract.

By the end of the night, the air was buzzing with laughter, clinking glasses, and new friendships. The verdict? More Cheese & Cheers, please.

Event Two: A Southern Spin in Molito

Next up: August 29 at Terry’s Molito branch. This edition leaned into bolder Italian flavors and rustic charm.

Buchette Cendrée Jacquin Sous Coque + Anna Spinato Pinot Grigio
Earthy goat cheese mellowed by a crisp Venetian white.

Port Salut + Valpolicella Classico
Creamy French classic paired with a light, juicy Italian red — easy-drinking, easy-loving.

Boccardo Poivre + Chianti Riserva Geografico
Peppery cheese meets Tuscan backbone. Spicy, savory, satisfying.

Gouda Tartufo + Governo all’Uso Toscano
Truffle-studded Gouda elevated by a Tuscan red with a touch of richness — indulgence squared.

Mini Tortita + Nero d’Avola
A humble Spanish tortita transformed into something special with Sicily’s signature red.
