Pinot Gris is a beautiful grape. It usually delivers a medium-bodied wine that promotes heavy floral and tropical fruit notes. The Pinot Gris Rotleibel de Rorschwihr Vendanges Tardives from Rolly Gassman, while Pinot Gris - is a little different in this respect. The surprise is definitely worth it.
This wine is surprisingly bold and forward. One will be blown away by how sweet the wine is - more akin to a dessert wine than a typical Pinot Gris. And while the wine does have a nice acidity, it is not as prominent due to the intense sweetness of the wine. To the eye: the wine shows beautiful yellows with slight hues of green intermixed. On the nose: notes of tropical fruits and peaches are noticed. Very acidic nose, belying the sweetness offered by the wine. On the palate: Sweetness is the name of the game. Heavy notes of peach, pear, apple, and pineapple can be observed with very little in the way of acidity.
This delicious wine works perfectly as a dessert wine or even as a digestif. The sweetness of the wine is appealing and satisfying. It is also quite wonderful to drink this wine on its own.
