Sardines are not something that many people identify with classy dining or adventurous culinary experiences. But that doesn’t mean sardines are not delicious and enjoyable. There are many things one can do with sardines - the cook’s imagination and the sardine’s quality being the only things to really hamper what one can do with them.
Ortiz Sardines in Olive Oil have long been considered some of the best canned sardines in the world. Utilizing wild-caught sardines from the north of Spain, these are canned using the French canning technique.
Sardines (and other canned fish) are pantry staples in Spain. In every household you will find sardines. They are usually eaten straight from the can, or served on crusty bread (a must try!). Try creating a nice dressing from wholegrain mustard, mayonnaise, salt, and pepper. Saute garlic, red onions, and fresh tomato. Turn off the heat and toss the sardines in the sauce. On the bread, spread a generous helping of the dressing, then layer the sardines and sauce, and finally drizzle a little lemon juice on top. Serve with olives. Try pairing with cerveza or Tempranillo.
Store in a cool dry place. Refrigerate upon opening.
