One of the most popular cheeses in the world, Gouda is known for its delicious flavor profile and versatility in the kitchen.

Gouda is perhaps one of the most popular cheeses in the world. Hailing from the Netherlands, this delicious cheese is usually aged for 7 or 8 months, however this is not always the case. Gouda is one of those cheeses that presents different characteristics depending on how young - or old - the cheese is. For instance, young gouda, such as this one, presents sweeter notes, is quite mild, and has a fudge-like texture, ensuring an excellent mouth feel. When allowed to age for longer, it becomes a little more intense. It develops a stronger tanginess, and a caramel-like nuttiness is even more prominent.

Gouda is made from cow’s milk, unpasteurized in this case. It is semi-hard, but not as crumbly as an aged cheddar or hard cheese like parmesan. Gouda is excellent when served as part of a cheese board. It works wonderfully in salads and sandwiches with fresh crusty bread. It is also rather easy to enjoy on its own thanks to its mild characteristics. It is especially enjoyable when paired with a nice Cabernet Sauvignon, thanks to the wine’s high tannins and epic flavor profile.

Storage Instructions

Cheeses (except brined ones in jars) should be stored in the crisper or the butter drawer of a refrigerator, not on the shelves themselves. This is to help regulate their temperature and humidity levels—and prevents the formation of mold. Once opened, they should not be kept in their original packaging. Soft cheeses with delicate rinds need to breathe, so they are best placed in glass containers lined with paper towels to absorb extra moisture. Leave the lid open a tiny bit for air to circulate and don’t forget to write up a label with the date you first opened the package. Kindly pay attention to the best before date label when you receive your cheese. Consume prior to date indicated.
