White wines from Rioja are solid wines with delicious palates and interesting bouquets, they are generally overlooked and quite underrated. That being said, Rioja winemakers take pride in the delicious whites they produce. This particular blanco is pure Viura (Macabeo) and presents characteristics commonly associated with this grape.
The wine is bold and forward, unlike its tinta counterpart, which is somewhat more reserved and mellow. It leans towards the dry side of things but offers a tantalizing sweetness that balances the acidity and dryness of the wine. To the eye: a pale, straw yellow greets the eyes with slight hints of green in the right light. On the nose: white fruits, such as pear and peach are coupled with slight notes of citrus. On the palate: refreshing and bold, notes of pear and pineapple are noticeable. Each sip promotes a medium finish with a smooth mouthfeel.
This wine pairs excellently with fish and light chicken dishes. It works extremely well with subtly shell-fish flavors, such as shrimp and scallops. It is also great to drink on its own.
Store your unopened bottle in a cool, dry, and dark place safe from constant vibration. Keep your bottle horizontal in a wine rack or cellar to retain the moistness of the cork. The ideal temperature for storage is between 7 to 15°C. Once opened, a bottle will be good for 3 to 5 days standing upright in the refrigerator.
