A port is a fortified wine that is made in the port-making region of Portugal. This area, known as the Douro region - is particularly famous for the processes winemakers observe when creating Port. Port, like sherry, takes the wine base, in this case white wine, and adds a grape spirit to it to ‘fortify’ the wine itself adding extra flavor, sweetness, and bit more of a kick.
This particular Port is sweet and smooth. It presents a beautifully mesmerizing golden color. On the nose, notes of citrus and dried fruits are observed. The palate is long and fresh, with an intense sweetness mixed with golden dried grapes and plums. Notes of cinnamon and cloves can also be observed.
Port is perfect as a digestif. Ancient practices believed port aids in digestion, especially after a heavy meal. It can be enjoyed on its own or paired with bitter chocolate.
Store your unopened bottle in a cool, dry, and dark place safe from constant vibration. Keep your bottle horizontal in a wine rack or cellar to retain the moistness of the cork. The ideal temperature for storage is between 7 to 15°C. Once opened, a bottle will be good for 3 to 5 days standing upright in the refrigerator.
