El Almendro was founded in Jijona (now known as Alicante), Spain in 1883 by Antonio Monerris Planelles. The first factory was opened in Jijona and he created his first batch of turron by 1885. The first two years were spent gaining experience and creating recipes. Over the next 100 years, the company expanded into what it is today, focusing on the purity of almonds and allowing this delicious nut to steal the show in all their creations.
The crunchy almond turron sticks with dark chocolate pay homage to the original turron recipe created by Antonio Monerris Planelles in the 1880’s. Utilizing the freshest almonds, thanks to El Almendro’s organic almond plantations, this delicious turron is modified slightly, thanks to the addition of dark chocolate. The dark chocolate is 70% cocoa, meaning it will be a little bitter. This bitterness is balanced perfectly thanks to the sweetness of the underlying almond turron.
This pairs deliciously with coffee or with a snifter of sherry. They are also enjoyed equally by themselves to allow the pleasing, contrasting flavors to really shine through.
