Only whole, flawless Marcona almonds, the queen of almonds, are used to make this Crunchy Almond Turron de Alicante. They are only found in the eastern part of Spain. 1880 combines them with orange blossom honey from Valencia and Alicante, and gently heats the combination until it is deliciously crispy. Egg white is also added to hold it together, and give it its classic color. The delicate crisp of these plump, delicious almonds enhances the crunch of the turron, which has a similar texture to that of peanut brittle.
Turrón was traditionally served only during the Christmas season, as the almond harvest took place in the fall. But 1880 makes it possible to enjoy Turrón de Alicante all year-round as a snack with coffee or as a delicious dessert.
Founded by Bautista Sirvant, 1880 is a family-owned business that has been in operation since the 1700s. This venerable yet inventive candy producer is run by the 12th generation of Sirvents, and their factory in Jijona has existed in the same town for generations.
