Josep Masachs Cava Semi

Josep Masachs Cava Semi-Seco (demi-sec) is quite a bit different from the normal Cavas which are usually brut, or brut nature. While brut / brut nature is quite a bit dryer, it can be a little overwhelming to drink constantly. For those looking for something quite a bit sweeter, the semi-seco is right up your alley. To put this in context: a liter of cava brut nature from Josep Masachs has approx. 0.5 grams, while this semi-seco has around 35 grams of sugar per liter - quite a difference there.

This cava is actually quite well balanced, including the sweetness that is expertly balanced by the acidity. It is not cloying or overpowering as everything seems to work in harmony together. To the eye: Beautiful yellow with golden highlights in the right light. On the nose: Fruity aromas of lemon, green apple, almonds, and apricots highlighted with slight notes of vanilla, hazelnut, and toasted bread. On the palate: delicious fruity flavors offset and balanced by a nuttiness that presents itself in the form of hazelnuts and almonds. It also has a delicious oakiness that shines through thanks to the aging process.

This wonderful Cava is perfect to enjoy on its own. It also works well with light appetizers and shellfish. It works particularly well with oysters, so be prepared to procure this for your next oyster course.

Storage Instructions

Store your unopened bottle in a cool, dry, and dark place safe from constant vibration. Keep your bottle horizontal in a wine rack or cellar to retain the moistness of the cork. The ideal temperature for storage is between 7 to 15°C. Once opened, a bottle will be good for 3 to 5 days standing upright in the refrigerator.
