Villa Tufo is an interesting cheese made all the more interesting thanks to the pungent black truffle incorporated in the cheese making process.

Turffo VIlla by expert cheese maker Treur Kaas, is a delicious cheese. The Dutch company begins the cheese making process by creating a creamy, smooth farmhouse cheese that is thermized, rather than pasteurized. The cheese maker only allows the cheese to ripen for 8 weeks to ensure that the cheese retains a smooth, silky, luxurious texture. The trade-off is that the cheese itself is not allowed to fully develop in flavor. But this is counterbalanced with the addition of excellent black truffles, hailing from the hills of Monti Sibillini in Italy.

This wonderful cheese features a nice lactic feel in the mouth, as is common with many Dutch cheeses. It is smooth and creamy. This is accentuated by the luxuriousness of the black truffles infused in the cheese itself. It is a semi-hard cheese, making it perfect for slicing, peeling, and grating.

This cheese works wonderfully with many dishes. It works particularly well as part of cheese boards, sandwiches, and salads. It is best enjoyed on its own allowing the consumer to fully savor the flavor of the truffles and the creaminess of the cheese.

Storage Instructions

Cheeses (except brined ones in jars) should be stored in the crisper or the butter drawer of a refrigerator, not on the shelves themselves. This is to help regulate their temperature and humidity levels—and prevents the formation of mold. Once opened, they should not be kept in their original packaging. Soft cheeses with delicate rinds need to breathe, so they are best placed in glass containers lined with paper towels to absorb extra moisture. Leave the lid open a tiny bit for air to circulate and don’t forget to write up a label with the date you first opened the package. Kindly pay attention to the best before date label when you receive your cheese. Consume prior to date indicated.
