Schloss Gobelsburg is the most prominent and oldest wine estate in the Austrian Danube river region of Kamptal. They have been creating exquisite wines since the 12th century, and are going strong till this very day. Their ‘Tradition’ wines, while part of an estate that believes in combining traditional techniques with modern winemaking practices, pay homage to the traditional techniques that have built winemaking into what it is today.
The Schloss Gobelsburg Langenlois Kamptal Grüner Veltliner is a wonderful wine, though slightly less intense than its Tradition cousin. This particular Grüner Veltliner is soft, subtle, and refreshing, offering a light-bodied sip, and a nice dryness and acidity. To the eye: golden notes of yellow are observed. On the nose: notes of honey and white pepper are observed. On the palate: chamomile, green apple, white pepper, and a slight smokiness pleasantly complement the refreshing acidity and dryness of the wine.
This wonderful Grüner Veltliner pairs perfectly with fish and light cream dishes. It also pairs rather well with light, subtle cheeses and breads. It is perfect for a hot summer’s day.
