The Nekeas “Tinto” is made with Tempranillo and Merlot grapes from vineyards on the north slopes of the Nekeas Valley, which provide the freshness and fruitiness that this style requires.
Both the Tempranillo and the Merlot grapes undergo cold maceration for at least five days, followed by at least another 10 days of fermentation at a temperature no greater than 28C. The process is called malolactic fermentation.
This red wine has a lovely sweetness, creaminess, and explosiveness to it. It exudes aromas and flavors of berries and cherry. The Tinto by Nekeas has a very good structure, a superb purity, and a pleasant, crisp finish.
The Nekeas Tinto Temparanillo-Merlot is an excellent companion to “pinchos,” which are small snacks traditional to Spain and the Basque country. Try it with stuffed peppers, tortillas de patatas, and croquettes. It also goes well with white meats and legumes, stewed with vegetables.
Store your unopened bottle in a cool, dry, and dark place safe from constant vibration. Keep your bottle horizontal in a wine rack or cellar to retain the moistness of the cork. The ideal temperature for storage is between 7 to 15°C. Once opened, a bottle will be good for 3 to 5 days standing upright in the refrigerator.
