The Martinez Lacuesta Crianza Rioja is an interesting wine. The wine is made with Tempranillo, Mazuelo, and Graciano. The wine is surprisingly light for a tempranillo (thanks to the Mazuelo), but flavor and fruitiness are not sacrificed.
This wine, while leaning towards being medium to light-bodied, produces some nice tannins and acidity, while being a little drier. A slight sweetness can be observed which balances the wine very well. To the eye: deep reds and violets are noticed in certain light. On the nose: strong notes of leather and vanilla can be observed with hints of dark berries. On the palate: Black fruits, such as plum and blackberry can be observed with finishings of oak and vanilla.
This delicious wine is great to sip on a warm afternoon. It pairs excellently with light red pastas, such as puttanesca or all’amatriciana. It also ages well thanks to the Tempranillo and Graciano grapes. Consider maturing for a spell longer before enjoying it.
Store your unopened bottle in a cool, dry, and dark place safe from constant vibration. Keep your bottle horizontal in a wine rack or cellar to retain the moistness of the cork. The ideal temperature for storage is between 7 to 15°C. Once opened, a bottle will be good for 3 to 5 days standing upright in the refrigerator.
