Hailing from the La Rioja region, the Martinez Lacuesta Reserva sports a wonderful bouquet matched only by its complex palate. The region is known for its stunning vistas and beautiful wines. The main variety planted is Tempranillo, but this is almost always blended with other grapes. Such is the case with Martinez Lacuesta Reserva. While the main grape variety is used in Tempranillo, it is also blended with Mazuelo and Grenache.
The result of this combination is a full bodied, bold, complex wine. It is quite intense but drinkers will find that it is also perfectly contrasted. While tannic and acidic, there is an underlying sweetness - not cloying in any way - that helps contrast these sensations. To the eye: consumers are greeted with a beautiful, miasmic, deep red cherry color. On the nose: A bouquet of dark berries, such as blueberries and blackberries, are at first most evident. Hints of tobacco and mushrooms are also observed, among others. On the palate: beautiful black fruits, such as plum, are noticed immediately. Hints of tobacco, vanilla, leather, and oak are also noticed.
This beautiful wine pairs excellently with grilled meats and heavily flavored and seasoned dishes. Try pairing this wonderful wine with a hearty Arroz Negre (Paella Negra). While heavy, the heartiness of the wine will complement the intensity of the dish.
Store your unopened bottle in a cool, dry, and dark place safe from constant vibration. Keep your bottle horizontal in a wine rack or cellar to retain the moistness of the cork. The ideal temperature for storage is between 7 to 15°C. Once opened, a bottle will be good for 3 to 5 days standing upright in the refrigerator.
