The Les Cailloux Grand Vin De Bordeaux is an excellent wine produced by Château Penin - a winemaker located just outside of Saint-Emilion. Unlike a typical Bordeaux blend (and the Grand Cru of Saint-Emilion itself), this wonderful wine is a pure Merlot. The result is a wine that boasts an excellent minerality thanks to the location of the terroir.
The Les Cailloux Grand Vin De Bordeaux is a wonderful wine. It is bold and rather forward. The tannins are soft and accompanied well by the refreshing acidity of the wine. This particular Merlot is quite dry, but garnishes a faint sweetness that playfully balances the acidity of the wine. To the eye: beautiful, deep reds are presented with soft purples splashed in the right light. On the nose: impeccable notes of oak and vanilla are observed with sweet, red fruits. On the palate: beautiful, ripe plum and blackberry are first noted, with the oak shining through again, but only to complement the fruit, not to overwhelm. The finish is long, seductive, and full of character.
This beautiful wine is best enjoyed on its own, but is paired wonderfully with cheese plates and charcuterie.
Store your unopened bottle in a cool, dry, and dark place safe from constant vibration. Keep your bottle horizontal in a wine rack or cellar to retain the moistness of the cork. The ideal temperature for storage is between 7 to 15°C. Once opened, a bottle will be good for 3 to 5 days standing upright in the refrigerator.
