Fruity, intense, and aromatic - this particular wine is an excellent representation of a really good Bordeaux. Hailing from the fertile lands in Escoussans, Chateau Haut-Mouleyre prides itself on doing justice to the grapes which this region is known for - Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
The result is a rather bold, slightly acidic / slightly sweet wine that presents mature, well-rounded tannins. It is forward and has a nice long finish. To the eye: deep ruby red is presented with a splash of purple in the right light. On the nose: red fruits, such as berries and plums are noticed with a hint of spice, like cinnamon and tobacco. On the palate: delicious plum, cherry, with notes of blackcurrant, and blackberries. Thoughts of cinnamon, oak, and cloves are detected. A delicious wine that will age very well.
This wine, while paired well with robust dishes, like stews and braised meats, works excellently on its own. Experiencing this excellent Bordeaux on its own is a must to fully appreciate the complexity this winemaking region lends the wines made and enjoyed here.
