A deliciously soft and supple cheese that can be made with either raw or pasteurized milk.

Coulommiers is a delicious cheese that is named after the village in which it originated in France. It is not an AOC cheese so the recipe changes from time to time, depending on who or which company made it, but the name will always remain the same.

This wonderful cheese is similar to brie in shape and texture. It is a round, thick disc with an appealing penicillium candidum rind. The texture of the cheese is soft, smooth, and creamy. It melts wonderfully, as with brie. The color of the cheese is a yellowish buttery hue and is made from fresh cow’s milk (either raw or pasteurized).

The cheese has a soft buttery bouquet with notes of earth and grass. The flavor is nuttier than brie and a little more intense, but very toned-down and subtle. Notes of grass and butter are noticed as well.

This cheese works perfectly when spread on some fresh, crusty bread and enjoyed with a wonderful bordeaux.

Storage Instructions

Cheeses (except brined ones in jars) should be stored in the crisper or the butter drawer of a refrigerator, not on the shelves themselves. This is to help regulate their temperature and humidity levels—and prevents the formation of mold. Once opened, they should not be kept in their original packaging. Soft cheeses with delicate rinds need to breathe, so they are best placed in glass containers lined with paper towels to absorb extra moisture. Leave the lid open a tiny bit for air to circulate and don’t forget to write up a label with the date you first opened the package. Kindly pay attention to the best before date label when you receive your cheese. Consume prior to date indicated.
